He started as a project manager in the project management division, after 12 years he moved to the civil engineering design division and today he leads the entire division from the position of director. Roman Havlišta is one of K4's most experienced employees. He has worked in the company continuously since 2002, almost his entire professional life. And in his own words, he has no reason to change anything about it.
Roman's beginnings in K4 were very non-standard. He was originally hired as a designer, but since he was in the company at the time they acutely needed a project manager with perfect english, he was transferred even before his appointment.
“After college, I spent a few months in America as part of the Work and Travel program, so English wasn't a problem. Anyway, it was a challenge, it was about design preparation and implementation of several stores of the MAKRO chain and I was at that time a graduate of BUT with experience mainly only with family houses, which I did during my time at school,” recalls Roman Havlísta.
It was thanks to a sharp start, however, that from the first orders he recognized the quality of colleagues around him.
MAKRO was just the beginning — Roman Havlišta was immediately put in charge of another big project. The Silesia shopping centre in Opava (today's Shopland Opava) was in 2004 one of the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. 70 thousand m! 2 built-up areas, Tesco hypermarket, shopping gallery with ten thousand m! 2 sales areas, fuel filling stations, parking... and a budget of half a billion CZK. “School of Life. From intention to house approval. And I verified that I can organize designers, engineers, construction contractors, supervision and other professions. “
After the business centers, Roman Havlišta managed the construction of hotels, congress centers, scientific-research centers or traumatology with a spinal unit at the University Hospital in Brno. But a perfectly banked career had a catch — travelling around the construction sites was also associated with the work of the project manager. And in 2014, when Roman Havlišta had been settled in Brno for a long time and he and his wife had two young children, he threatened to be deployed elsewhere with his new project.
“At that time it seemed realistic that my next focus would be constructions in Prague or Bratislava. So I searched and found a new job in Brno. But management came to me saying they didn't want to lose me and offered me a new position in projection. This gave me a detour back to the division I originally applied for, and most importantly it allowed me to stay in Brno. “
Then it had a rapid decline. In 2016, Roman Havlišta became Deputy Director Land Construction Projection Division and from 2025, the entire division leads from the position of director. Thanks to his experience in project management and building design, he is able to empathically connect both worlds and understand the needs of everyone involved.
Despite his career progression and a number of great projects in which Roman Havlišta participated, he values something else most about K4 — the collective. “I know any company can claim it, but the group that came together here is really special. There are more of us who have been in the company for more than 20 years, and long ago we are not just colleagues. We spend weekends together, we know our families. K4 is a second home for me. And also those who come to us from other companies say that they have not experienced such a good group and mutual relations elsewhere. “
In order to maintain the atmosphere inside the company, they try to recruit new people choose mainly those with which chemistry works. “Drawing in Revit is taught in a few weeks with a little effort, but it is difficult to learn attitude and fairness. Therefore, we are mainly looking for people who are honest, keep their word and put a lot of heart into the work. If you meet this, I would be happy to meet you for an interview — we deal with interesting and significant projects and we are constantly looking for new faces in the building design division. “
